Big Swing Golf’s Behind the Fairway – Meet Lindsay

Big Swing Golf’s Behind the Fairway

When you tee up Big Swing Golf, one of the golfers you can play is Lindsay, a character inspired by a real-life golf pro! Not only can you play as her, but this PGA pro also consulted on the game to ensure its authenticity and high quality. In celebration of the game’s launch, we caught up with Lindsay on Big Swing Golf’s virtual fairways to get the inside scoop. We chipped in a few questions about her love for golf, her role in Big Swing Golf, and her top tips for players looking to score big on the virtual greens.

Hi Lindsay, thank you for taking the time from your busy coaching schedule to speak with us. How did your journey in golf begin?

It’s safe to say that golf has been a lifelong passion of mine. I picked up my first club at the age of three and instantly fell in love with the game. By the time I was six, I started competing, and as I grew older, I turned my passion into a career.

That’s fantastic! Apart from your involvement with Big Swing Golf, what other roles do you hold in the world of golf?

I became a PGA Professional in 2011 and am currently the Director of Instruction at Topgolf Las Vegas. I love helping others enjoy the sport that I love! Teaching and coaching golf is so rewarding, and it has opened doors to so many cool opportunities in life, such as working on Big Swing Golf!

How did you connect with the WorldWinner team working on Big Swing Golf?

They actually came to me for a golf lesson! They are experts in making games but not so much golf, so they reached out to learn more about golf. We talked, and they asked me to work with them to make sure the game was pro-golfer-approved. The team was great to work with; I think I learned just as much about video games as I taught them about golf. Seeing it come to life from concept to release has been a cool and delightfully unexpected experience.

What are some suggestions you made?

My overall focus was on making sure that everything, from terminology to how different factors affected the ball, was accurate and realistic. The awesome part of golf is that every course, hole, or condition is different for every round you play. So, we created the game to include variables and obstacles that are often faced while playing, such as trees and water, the slope of the green, and wind, to bring authenticity to the experience.
I also helped with ball backspin and specialty shots in the game, and seeing how my feedback translated into gameplay changes was very satisfying. Pro tip: If you have a good lie on the fairway (for beginners, this means the ball is in a great spot for the next shot), be sure to play around with the backspin settings!

Do you have any pro tips for players who want to play their best round of Big Swing Golf?

For anyone wanting to level up their Big Swing Golf skills, my biggest tip is to factor in the wind with every shot. It really affects how the ball flies and where it lands. Also, pay close attention to the movement of the green when putting. Real golf courses have a lot of undulation (rises and dips), and that affects how the ball rolls and players can expect to experience that in the game as well.

Also, you are in the game as the female golfer, Lindsay?

Yes! I’m so excited to be a character players can choose to play as in Big Swing Golf! Growing up, golf wasn’t a popular sport for women, but it’s been great to see more and more women and girls getting into the sport. I hope my role in the game helps highlight that women not only enjoy golf but can excel at it, too!

What was it like seeing your likeness in the game for the first time?

I couldn’t help but giggle at how much the character looked and acted like me in real life! From her overall look to the determined expression she wears with every shot to her victory dance, it felt like the developers really considered every detail and captured them perfectly. I particularly love her style and wish I could wear some of her outfits on the course! Her hairstyle is also my go-to when golfing!

Oh wow! How did they capture your likeness and animation so well?

The team took a ton of pictures and videos of me for reference! I did everything from putting to swinging to my victory dance. It was cool to see how they captured little details like how I spin my club after a swing.

Thank you so much for spending time with us, Lindsay! We have one more question for you.  If your in-game character faced off against Preston, the other character, in a Big Swing Golf tournament, who do you think will win and why?

It was great talking to you! To answer your question, Lindsay will obviously win because she has a better celebration dance! Haha! In all seriousness, I think she is a great character because she not only crushes drives, but she is especially accurate on shorter shots.
