Building What Players See & Do – Josh, Principal Software Engineer

At WorldWinner, a lot happens behind the scenes to make sure the platform looks great, works smoothly, and keeps players engaged. That’s where Josh, Principal Software Engineer, comes in! From tournament pages to the brand-new Goals system, Josh plays a key role in shaping the web experience for our players.
We caught up with him to learn more about his work and how it impacts the WorldWinner experience:
Can you tell us about your role as a Principal Software Engineer and how it impacts the WorldWinner experience?
I’m here to help our players on the WorldWinner websites to have both a pretty and a pretty quick experience while they play to win. If you’re on worldwinner.com, you’re using my work to enter tournaments, collect goals, see how many players you’ve beaten today, and a lot more.
You’re working on the new Goals system, what makes this feature exciting for players?
The new Goal Power system is a really fun new twist on earning goal rewards for WorldWinner players. The surprise of spinning to win a prize, and possibly hitting the big win, is a great way to keep winning in between playing tournaments. I like that players can collect multiple spins and blast through them one after another to really rack up the winnings!
What’s your favorite part about creating features that directly impact player motivation and engagement?
Web engineering is a career that sometimes people don’t look at as something that’s “fun,” but it’s all about what you get to make. I’ve been fortunate to be working on the WorldWinner sites for a long time, and I get to have fun with my work because we get to build products that our players get to have fun with! Building eye-catching features that our players look forward to using, with unique art, colors, and interactions, well, it’s a lot better than a lot of things I could be writing code for.
What’s something about software development for a skill gaming platform that people might not realize?
It’s not necessarily as straightforward and one-size-fits-all as someone might think. All of our engineering team has their disciplines and areas of focus; for me, that means that I get to use my background in art and design while creating our user interface, but we wisely leave the server development and games engineering to my highly-talented peers.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the WorldWinner team?
I’ve been around quite a while and seen the team grow and change along the way. One constant that I have always appreciated is that we are able to consistently add teammates in all areas who love being able to expand the ways we can bring new excitement to skill gaming. It keeps our work fresh and exciting and is clearly a big part of why we’ve been here so long.
Josh helps ensure that everything you see and do on the WorldWinner website works beautifully, from joining tournaments to spinning up rewards. With his creativity and experience, he’s shaping the player experience one feature at a time.
