Crafting the Experiences You Love to Play – Alex, Game Designer

Meet Alex, one of the creative minds behind the games you love on WorldWinner. As a Game Designer, Alex blends curiosity, thoughtful decision-making, and a dash of playful weirdness to create experiences that feel fun, intuitive, and deeply engaging. Whether it’s refining gameplay mechanics or dreaming up dragons and nudges, Alex focuses on designing games that reward smart choices. The goal is always to make every moment of play feel fun and engaging.
What’s your favorite part about designing games for WorldWinner?
Watching a stranger play and love a game that our amazing team has passionately worked on for months!
How do you get creative with designing fun game experiences?
I just let my inner child run wild! If I have an idea that makes me think, “ooh, that would be fun!” then I try to find a way to fit it into our games in a natural way.
What’s something you’ve learned while designing games that players might find surprising?
The most important thing to consider with any new gameplay idea is not necessarily how good it is, but how hard it will be to teach the player.
What’s one of your favorite projects you’ve worked on as a game designer?
Payline Slots! I mean, come on – it has a dragon, how can you argue with that!? The pieces also came together really well. Early on I had the idea to allow the player to hold and respin reels, and right away that created a lot of situations where they were faced with interesting decisions where the different options had various pros and cons. Later we ditched that idea and simply gave the player a set amount of nudges per spin, which led to even more interesting decisions. I’ve always preferred games that test players’ decision-making abilities rather than their ability to execute maneuvers with fast-twitch reflexes, so this was a very good sign! As we added more gameplay elements, they kept working together in a really cohesive way that kept giving the decisions more and more delicious nuance – it was very exciting!
What do you enjoy most about being part of the WorldWinner design tem?
That everyone lets me be my weird self 🙂
Fun Fact
On the weekends I’m the organist for the oldest Lutheran church in Austin!
